Preschool is the perfect age to teach your child how to pray. Prayer is simply talking to God.
This month we are learning to love God with all our hearts. And when you love someone, you want to talk to them!
A parent shared with me that they were having a hard time getting their 3-year-old to pray with them at bedtime.
Two things:
1. Don’t pressure them. Have you ever noticed your child has this uncanny ability to pick up the “I really want you to do this” vibe? If they know you really want them to do it, there’s a good chance you’re going to meet with some resistance.
2. Pray for them and with them. Watching you pray and hearing you talk to God is one of the best ways for your child to learn how to pray. Keep your prayers simple and conversational. You might consider lying on the bed with her one night, looking up at the ceiling and talking to God about your day. Keep it simple and she’ll want to join you.
Example:
God, I had a great day today. Thank you for giving me such great people to work with in the office. They are fun and smart. Thank you for taking care of me and for taking care of my family today. You give us everything we need. God I love you. I am so thankful that you love me. Amen.
Simple as that!
Jeremiah 33:3 says: “Call unto me and I will answer you and show you great and unsearchable things that you do not know.”
God wants us to talk to Him!
